Ankeny Centennial senior Claire Nelson signs a letter of intent to play softball next year at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Nelson is shown with her parents, Lynn Nelson and Julie Nelson.

Ankeny Centennial pitcher Claire Nelson has decided to continue her softball career at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, an NCAA Division III school.

Nelson compiled a 1-3 record with a 3.57 ERA as a junior. She recorded 17 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings while limiting opposing batters to a .264 average.

Nelson also batted .267 with one home run, one double and 11 RBIs. She hit a grand slam in a game against Dowling Catholic.

Nelson helped the Jaguars to a 14-21 record in their inaugural season. She received all-divison honorable mention.

Nelson is planning to major in media studies with a minor in social media.
