One team that did and improved its position was Miami Country Day, the tournament winner. The Spartans improved to 32-2, and moved from No. 7 to No. 3 by defeating then-No. 16 Gonzaga Prep (Spokane, Wash.) 60-59 in a tournament semifinal as Kelsey Marshall had 28 points and then-No. 3 Dillard (Fort Lauderdale) 57-41 in the championship as Michelle Berry had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
With the narrow loss to Miami Country Day, Gonzaga Prep (27-1) also helped itself, moving to No. 8 in the rankings.
St. Mary’s (Stockton, Calif.), the state Open Division champion, remained at No. 2. Myers Park (Charlotte), the state 4A champion, is fourth and Cypress Woods (Texas), the state 6A champion, rounds out the top five.
