Madison was plagued by injuries even before the kickoff of its 45-10 loss to New Albany on Friday night. The offense suffered from the start with running backs Reece Dryden and Gage Brewer out.

And the Bulldogs got on the board quickly. With 11:19 left in the first quarter, quarterback Justin Ricketts  rushed 8 yards for a score. Less than five minutes later, New Albany’s Taylor Souder rushed in another.

Madison answered by progressing, slowly but surely, from its own 33-yard line to New Albany’s 13-yard line. The entire drive took over five and a half minutes off the clock. Down 14-0, the Cubs settled for a field goal.

Despite a valiant effort from Madison on defense, the second quarter only brought a bigger deficit. Tyler Triplett ran 43 yards for a touchdown, which was followed by Ricketts throwing in two touchdowns. Both were bombs down the field — the first a 45-yard pass to Davin Alexander and the second a 41-yard throw to a wide-open Michael Maxwell.

The Cubs finally made it to the end zone in the third quarter, when Alex Wilson threw a 12-yard pass to Chad Ison. Two additional New Albany scores quickly eliminated any newfound Madison hope.

The Cubs now stand at 0-6 (0-4 Hoosier Hills Conference), while the Bulldogs (3-3, 2-2) maintain a lead in league play.
