Pounding out 16 hits, the New Paltz High School softball team opened its season Saturday with a 12-3 win over host Saugerties.
Adriana Crimi and Sydney Pece each smacked solo home runs for the Huguenots. Pece also had a bases-clearing double and finished with four RBI. Ally Pannuto finished it off with two singles, two doubles and four RBI.
Karly Giancola helped out with a double and two RBI. Additionally she threw out two runners trying to steal from behind the plate.
Bridget Bennett tossed a complete game, scattered three hits, walked one and struck out 10.
“Bridget pitched an excellent game,” New Paltz coach Kristen Conrad said. “Her pitches were working for her. Her rise (pitch) is a new pitch for her — she had it last year, but it didn’t often work. It was working for her. That was great.
“We had some unexpected power from the bottom of our lineup, which was awesome to see. It proves we have power one through nine.”
The Huguenots (1-0) return to action at Rondout Valley at 4:15 p.m. Monday.
