New prep football rankings after a busy Week 6

We’ve completed six weeks of the football season and teams are gaining speed toward the playoffs.

Van Meter is one of those squads. After winning five consecutive games, the Bulldogs (5-1) have broken into the Des Moines Register’s high school football rankings at No. 8 in Class 1A after a 28-14 win over previously unbeaten Panorama of Panora.The Register’s No. 1-ranked teams remained the same: Class 4A West Des Moines Dowling Catholic, 3A Pella, 2A Albia, 1A Iowa City Regina, Class A BGM of Brooklyn and eight-player Don Bosco of Gilbertville.
