Player: Marvin Parker.
School: Mansfield Senior.
Regular season stats: 75 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles; As a backup running back, ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns.
Honors: Division II first-team All-Northwest District, Ohio Cardinal Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Notes: Three-year starter … Big reason the Tygers won a piece of the OCC title and made the playoffs for the third time in four years … Versatile performer who could play as a hand-down lineman, as an edge rusher at outside linebacker and as a cover of a slot receiver … Possible MAC-level college recruit who will get lots of NCAA D-II looks.
Coachspeak: “He was the one that got us in our sets and knowing where everybody was supposed to be at. He was defensively the heart and soul of our defense. He was the voice that you heard when he pulled all the guys together on the defensive side of the ball, so they followed him as a leader,” Mansfield Senior Chioke Bradley said. “His football IQ is off the charts. He understands the game and studies the game. He knows how to defeat a scheme. He’s got good size and you add some athleticism and quickness to it.”
