The NFL Referees Association has condemned the attack by two San Antonio John Jay football players on umpire Robert Watts during a game Friday against Marble Falls in Texas.

The incident has gained national attention and the video has gone viral.

“These types of actions against any game official at any level are inexcusable. We fully support the suspensions of the players involved, along with a full and complete investigation by the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL),”  NFLRA Executive Director Jim Quirk said.

In a statement, the NFLRA called the incident an “apparent deliberate attempt to punish Texas high school football official Robert Watts by two John Jay High School football players.”

“I’ve never seen anything like this in all my years of officiating at the high school, collegiate or professional level,” Quirk said.
