It’s been a summer filled with NFL talent around these parts.
Dozens of pro football players stopped by at one point or another to coach players in the neighborhoods of central Georgia greats.
“Northside just won a state championship last year, Houston County, Veterans, Perry and Warner Robins. We got a stable of athletes down here,” Green Bay Packer and former Perry Panther, Casey Hayward said.
Hayward was one of the guys who led the Middle Georgia youth football camp at Northside High on Tuesday. The former Panther was the odd man out, as Northside alums Steven Nelson and Abry Jones also helped out at their old high school.
“I’m just trying to give them the tools that have been taught to me, and gave me so much success,” Jones said. “They can learn it themselves at a young age, and carry them right on.”
The Chiefs selected Nelson out of Oregon State in this year’s NFL Draft. Jones is a former Georgia Bulldog. He currently plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
