Juinor Nick Roditis got his second save of the season the hard way on Wednesday as he preserved Mater Dei Prep’s 7-3 win over Point Pleasant Beach in a Shore Conference Class B Central baseball matchup.
Roditis came on with the bases loaded and nobody out in the top of the seventh inning and the No. 2, 3 and 4 hitters coming up for Point Beach.
He got them all on infield pop-ups without a run scoring as the Seraphs (10-4, 9-1) remained tied with St. Rose (11-3, 9-1) for first place in Class B Central. Mater Dei hosts St. Rose on Tuesday.
Vinny Stanziale, who was making an emergency start for the injured Joe Ruth, pitched into the seventh for his fourth win of the season.
Ruth has a torn tendon in his right thumb and is sidelined for the rest of the season, with surgery scheduled for Thursday, Mater Dei coach Pat Riddell said.
Ryan Fanner went 2-for-3 with RBI doubles in the second and fifth innings, and Liam Olausen had a two-run double in the fifth as Mater Dei built a 7-0 lead.
Antonio Garcia and Andrew Allegretta had RBI singles in the sixth for Point Beach (8-3, 8-3).
Jackson Liberty 9, Donovan Catholic 0: Senior Howard Taylor pitched a complete-game three-hitter and struck out eight and walked two, Sean Galvin had a two-run double and Dylaan Millemann, Mike Zak and Matt Pinto each had RBI singles in an eight-run sixth, as the Lions (8-4, 8-2) defeated the Griffins (9-6, 6-4) in a Class B South game.It was the second straight day division-leading Jackson Liberty defeated Donovan Catholic. The two began the two-game series tied for first in Class B South.
Jackson Liberty is now two games ahead of both Donovan Catholic and Barnegat.
Freehold Twp. 6, Ocean 0: Kyle Fenton pitched a complete-game two-hitter, struck out seven and walked none and also had an RBI and scored a run, and Rob Eriksen had two RBI as the No. 12 seed Patriots (8-9) defeated the No. 5 seed Spartans (11-5) in a Monmouth County Tournament round of 16 game
Freehold Township will host No. 13 seed Wall in an MCT quarterfinal.
Central 4, Barnegat 1: Jake Dominguez’s two-out three-run triple in the top of the seventh broke a 1-1 and senior Anthony Arneth struck out nine and did not allow an earned run in a complete-game effort as the Golden Eagles (6-7, 5-5) defeated the Bengals (7-6, 6-4) in a Class B South game. It was Central’s second win over Barnegat in the last five days.
Brick Memorial 5, TR East 4: Corey Cathey’s two-out single to right center with two out in the bottom of the seventh scored courtesy runner Kyle McCabe with the winning run and gave the Mustangs (8-9, 3-7) the win over the Raiders (4-6, 4-6) in a Class A South game.
Pinelands 5, Manchester 4: Patrick Spagnola’s three-run homer highlighted a five-run bottom of the third, and Jared Miller pitched a complete-game five-hitter and did not allow an earned run as the Wildcats (7-7, 6-5) defeated the Hawks (6-7, 5-6) in a Class B South game. It was the second straight day Pinelands defeated Manchester.
TR South 12, Southern 10: Corey Nase went 4-for-5 with three RBI, Jake Ryan had a two-run double in the top of the seventh, and sophomore Justin Fall struck out six and allowed one earned run in the first five innings as the Indians (8-4, 7-3), ranked No. 6 in the Asbury Park Press Top 10, defeated the Rams (4-8, 3-7) in a Class A South game.
TR North 12, Brick 3: Joe Venditto went 4-for-5 with two RBI, Brandon Fischer was 3-for-5, and Doug Molnar pitched the first six innings to pick up the win as the No. 2 Mariners (11-2, 10-1) defeated the Green Dragons (7-7, 4-6) in a Class A South game.
Asbury Park 17, Henry Hudson 6: Salvatore Swain homered, scored four runs and went 2-for-4 with two RBI; Keshaun Samuels homered and had four RBI; and Jarodd Fletcher also had four RBI as the Blue Bishops (1-7, 1-7) defeated the Admirals (1-8, 1-8) in a Class B Central game.
Jackson Memorial 15, Lacey 0: Brandon Janofsky belted two homers and had three RBI, Rich Rountree had a two-run single and went 2-for-3 with three RBI, Kyle Johnson had a two-run triple and Ryan Takacs pitched five innings of three-hit ball and struck ouy five and walked one as the No. 5 Jaguars (9-4, 7-3) defeated the Lions (5-9, 3-8) in a Class A South game. It was Jackson Memorial’s eighth straight win and avenged an earlier loss to Lacey.
Ranney 4, Keyport 3: John Mejia struck out seven, walked one and pitched a complete-game six hitter, and Prakhar Nair had an RBI single as the Panthers (3-7, 3-7) defeated the Red Raiders (5-6, 5-6) in a Class B Central game. It was Ranney’s second straight win.
St. Rose 18, Keansburg 0: Brandon Mology pitched a five-inning shutout and struck out sevenand walked one and Kyle Missry’s solo homer highlighted a four-run first as the Purple Roses (11-3, 9-1) defeated the Titans (4-7, 4-7) in a Class B Central game. It was St. Rose’s 11th straight win.
