Get ready for another round of the Sneaker Wars between Nike and Under Armour.

Last August, Nike tried to steal the thunder from the 10th anniversary of the Under Armour Elite 24 with an event in the Bahamas that lured away top players such Harry Giles and Jayson Tatum relatively close to the event.

Earlier this week, Under Armour announced that the first session of its grassroots elite basketball league will be held April 15-17 at Basketball City in New York. Under Armour has three sessions scheduled with the finals in Atlanta from July 13 to 16.

Not to be outdone, Nike announced that the annual Jordan Brand Classic will return to the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn on April 15 and that the opening session for the Nike EYBL will be April 16-17 in the New York area. A site is to be determined.

The Jordan Brand Classic, in its 15th year overall, will feature games for the top boys, top girls and top international players. The EYBL will have four regular season sessions with the EYBL Finals at the Nike Peach Jam in N. Augusta, SC in mid-July.

Nike is putting the events under the banner, High School Hoops NYC Takeover and is planning other activities around the New York area.

“We are proud to hold our opening session of the EYBL in New York City, an exciting launch to our season of events,” said Carlton DeBose, director of Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball department.  “And it is fitting to partner with our friends at Jordan Brand, with the Jordan Brand Classic as the graduation of high school basketball and the final stop on the EYBL journey.”
