Just a handful of events were completed at Thursday’s Division III boys track and field district meet at Gibsonburg High School, but nine area athletes advanced to Wednesday’s regional meet at Tiffin Columbian. The top four finishers in each event final advanced to regionals.
Gibsonburg’s 4X800 relay team of Marcus Tille, Vincent Alejandro Nate Shammo and Nate Stricker finished third in 8:55.01. Tyler Hovis was second in the discus with a toss of 144 feet, and fellow Golden Bear Wesley Campbell was third in the pole vault clearing the bar at 11-08.
Old Fort’s Adam Alexander won the pole vault with a meet-record 15-01 clearance. The previous mark of15-00 was set in 2012 by Nathan Alexander— also of Old Fort.
St. Joseph Central Catholic’s Adam Smith was second in the long jump (18-03). Jeremy Schiavone will represent Woodmore in the long jump after a fourth-place leap of 17-103/4.
Most events Thursday were preliminary heats where the top eight finishers— both individual and teams— qualified for Friday’s final heats.
