Nine local wrestlers in state finals


After the second day of the 60th annual AHSAA State Wrestling Championships, nine local wrestlers have clinched a spot in the championship matches.

Prattville leads the way with a trio of competitors. Camden Funkhouser (126 pounds), Robbey Killough (138 pounds) and undefeated 170-pounder Caden McWhirter will look to win titles when the action begins at 11:30 a.m. today at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

In Class 6A, Wetumpka’s Vershone Graham (126 pounds) and Khaliq Jones (160 pounds) both made the finals, along with Stanhope Elmore’s 106-pounder Ty Naquin.

Undefeated 120-pounder Zachary Van Alst of Catholic will be going for his fourth straight state title in Class 1A-5A. Tallassee’s Kennon Reese (132 pounds) and Holtville’s Hunter Scott (160 pounds) also hope to bring home titles.
