BINGHAMTON – Brendan Pell’s ninth-inning hit propelled Haddon Heights, N.J., to a 7-6 victory over Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, in the championship game of the Broome County Hall of Fame Tournament at Conlon Field on Sunday.
With the game tied at 6, Pell knocked in Richard Giandrea with a single in the top of the ninth for the winning run.
Haddon Heights took a 6-5 lead with two runs in the fifth, but Guaynabo came back in the bottom half of the seventh. Alexander Stewart hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Eddiel Lopez to even the score.
Nicholas Joyce led Haddon Heights’ offense with two RBIs, including a home run in the first. Stewart and Cesar Colon each had a RBI for Guaynabo.
Jacob Gramkowski tossed a perfect ninth inning to hold on to the win. Nicolas Besosa allowed a run on two hits through the final two innings to take the loss for Guaynabo.
