SCOUTING REPORT: NJSIAA GROUP 1 BOYS SOCCER TOURNAMENT SEMIFINAL
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday/Haddonfield High School
Who: Central Group I champ South River (14-8-1) vs. South Group I champ Schalick (21-1)
How they got here: South River defeated Metuchen 2-0 in the Central Group I final. Schlick topped Lindenwold 2-1 in the South Group I final.
South River report: One of the smaller schools of the Greater Middlesex Conference, South River has made an impressive tournament run. Prior to defeating Metuchen in the sectional final, the Rams defeated Shore, the group’s top-seeded team. Nark Miranda Jr. leads the Rams’ offensive attack with 14 goals and 14 assists, while Jonathan Franco has contributed a team-high 20 goals this season. Ian Sawicki (8 goals, 4 assists) scored an impressive goal in the sectional title game and should not be underrated. South River goalkeeper Erick Lucas (165 saves) is a brick wall between the pipes.
Schalick report: The Cougars are experienced and boast a dangerous offensive attack. Michael D’Orio (26 goals, 10 assists) and Tyler Lunsford (20 goals) combine for a dynamic 1-2 punch on offense. Collin Cardona is a table-setter for the offense, recording 12 assists on the season. Chris Lenahan (129 saves) anchors a solid defense.
Prediction: It’s been a magical run for South River. The Rams beat Shore and it wouldn’t be surprising for them to defeat another top-seeded team. With that being said, Schalick may have too much offensive power for the Rams to contain.
Schalick 2, South River 1
