In late January when Ben Simmons was named to the McDonald’s All American game he said he was most excited to be playing in the game so he “could represent for Australia.”
Now he’ll represent for the “Land Down Under” at the Nike Hoop Summit on April 11 at the Moda Center in Portland.
“I feel extremely honored to have been chosen to represent Australia at the Nike Hoop Summit,” said Simmons, a forward at Montverde (Montverde, Fla.) who is signed to LSU. “Any time I get the opportunity to be a basketball ambassador for the country that I was raised in is a huge honor. I’m very excited to be able to play with and compete against such a talented group of my peers from around the globe. It should be a fun and challenging week for everyone.”
Simmons, who is ranked No. 1 overall in the ESPN 100, will run with the World Select Team against a Team USA squad comprised of the top seniors in the country who won gold medals with USA Basketball last summer.
Team USA has won 12 of the last 17 games, but the World Select Team has won two of the last three.
Simmons has led Montverde to back-to-back national titles.
Here’s what the World Select Team will be getting from Simmons.
