Notre Dame commit Tony Jones Jr. ran for two touchdowns to lead No.7 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) to a 28-20 defeat of visiting Paramus Catholic (Paramus, N.J.) Friday.

Paramus Catholic (3-4) led 13-7 in the first half when Jones went to work. He finished off a drive just before the half, walking in from the 1-yard line. On the Ascenders’ first series of the second half, he broke a 59-yard run for a touchdown, picking up some nice blocks along the way. Quarterback Shea Patterson added insurance for IMG (7-0) in the third quarter with an 87-yard touchdown pass to Drake Davis.

Paramus Catholic did a good job of staying close with two interceptions of Patterson and strong running by Alijah Jackson, who ran for touchdowns of 21 and six yards. The Paladins trailed 28-20 with just under six minutes left when Ahman Williams’ intercepted Patterson, but Joshua Kaindoh sacked Paladins quarterback Allan Walters on the Paladins’ final two series to end the threat.

IMG scored on its first play from scrimmage in the first half, a halfback option pass by Jack Wegher to Emmanuel Greene for a 41-yard touchdown. The point-after by Ricky Aguayo put the Ascenders up 7-0.

Paramus Catholic answered on the next drive, however, grinding out an 16-play drive and ending it with a 1-yard touchdown run on fourth down by Ahmad Thomas. A bad snap on the extra-point allowed IMG to retain the lead. Paramus took the lead at 13-6 when the Paladins intercepted Patterson and one play later, Jackson ran it in from the 21.

Shortly before the first half, IMG went ahead at 14-13 on Jones’ first touchdown. On the series, Jordan Anthony ran for 18 yards on the drive and Patterson connected with Greene for a 21-yard pass.

IMG’s Bryce Beard had kickoff returns of 75 and 42 yards.
