After regular-season victories against two teams from Florida and one from Pennsylvania, DeMatha Catholic played its first opponent from its home state.

The No. 8 Stags (Hyattsville, Md.) sprinted out of the gates against St. Mary’s Ryken (Leonardtown) to a 35-0 halftime lead on the way to a 49-0 victory. It was DeMatha’s first shutout of the season.

DeMatha (4-0) next faces an interesting matchup with St. John’s College Prep (Washington, D.C.), which upended Our Lady of Good Counsel 29-23 on Friday night.

And apparently someone at DeMatha is paying close attention to the rankings.
