The Norfork Lady Panthers clinched a regional tournament berth after riding a 23-point second quarter to a 59-37 victory over the Mammoth Spring Lady Bears in the opening round of the 1A-2 North District Tournament on Wednesday at Brockwell.
Cheyenne Acklin tossed in 17 points to lead Norfork (25-9), which led just 7-5 after one quarter, but surged to a 30-16 halftime lead. Norfork upped its advantage to 49-25 at the end of three quarters.
Marleigh Dodson added 16 points for the Lady Panthers, while Riley Scalf added nine, Montana Greve scored six, Mary Miller notched five, Abbie Belding tallied three, and Jordan Standfield chipped in two.
Norfork, the No. 3 seed, will face No. 2 seed Viola at 2 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals. All semifinal games have been moved up two hours, due to potential freezing rain late Thursday night.
With Wednesday’s victory, the Lady Panthers are assured of a spot in next week’s 1A Region 2 Tournament at Hillcrest Elementary School in Lynn.
