The North Webster boys captured the Region 1-3A championship with excellence on the track Wednesday.
Devin White delivered a 100 meter win with teammate Xavious Eason coming in second. Both participated on the first-place 4X100 relay and second place 4X200 relay.
Kolby Cooper produced a first-place finish in the 1600 and second place in the 800. D’Aldron Harden won the high jump.
North Webster also claimed the female track MVP as Kentaria Thomas won the 100, 200 and ran on the first-place 4X100 as the Lady Knights finished third overall.
Other top local performers included Green Oaks’ Treyvon Luckey (shot, 48-6).
Calvary boys win Region 1-2A
Calvary’s track prowess led the boys to a region title Thursday in Natchitoches.
Andraez Williams took the 100 (11.00) and helped the Cavs 4X100 relay (43.12) to a win. The Cavs also snatched the 4X400 title (3:28.34).
Calvary’s depth boosted the Cavs to 76 points, winning by more than 20.
Other area boys’ winners included Lakeside’s Eric Greene (1600, 4:50.60; 3200, 10:43.04); Red River’s Dezmond Bryant (400, 50.72); Many’s Shannon Sanders (pole vault, 11-0) and Homer’s Deangelo Williams (triple jump, 45-4.5).
The Homer girls finished second behind champion Menard.
Nikeajah Austin won the 100 (12.67) and helped Homer to relay wins the 4X100 (51.31) and 4X200 (1:45.64).
Other local winners include Calvary’s Hailey Hesterman, who won the 800 (2:24.28) and the 1600 (5:24.34); Lakeside’s Alissa Lander (3200, 11:59.58) and North Caddo’s Marvecia Grundy (shot put, 34-10.5).
Ruston girls win Region 1-5A
Ruston won the girls team title at Northwestern State with 87 points while a slew of local boys teams finished behind champion Pineville, who had 66 points.
The Haughton boys finished second (55 points) with Ruston (54), Parkway (45) and Captain Shreve (45) trailing.
Ruston’s Keitavious Walter turned heads with a 10.36 in the 100 meters, and he’s also a part of the winning 4X200 relay.
Other local boys winners include Natchitoches Central’s Correion Mosby (200, 21.57; 400, 48.78); Parkway’s Hayden Kingfisher (1600, 4:29.46; and 3200, 10.00.92); Parkway’s Juwon Johnson (110 hurdles, 14.63); Haughton’s Antonio Woodfork (300 hurdles, 39.04) and Haughton’s 4X100 relay (41.52).
On the girls side, local winners include Natchitoches Central’s DeKayta Alex (400, 57.06) Parkway’s Sara Funderburk (800, 2:18.76; 3200, 11:54.57); Ruston’s Zanecia Jackson (100 hurdles, 14.62; 300 hurdles, 47.18); Ruston’s 4X100 relay (48.52); Ruston’s 4X200 relay (1:41.17); Ruston’s 4X400 relay (3:58.47) and NCHS’ Serenity Legardy (shot, 38-01).
Byrd’s Morgan White, who was a state title contender in multiple events, hyper-extended her knee on a long jump attempt and was forced to withdraw. White, a Louisiana Tech signee, will not advance to the state championships.
Teammate Kyah Loyd will carry Byrd’s state hopes now as she qualified in the 100, 200 and 100 hurdles.
