Northmor’s Sam Neer (top) wins a heated battle over Tim Williamson of Mt. Gilead during day two of the OHSAA Central District Division III wrestling tournament at Cardington-Lincoln on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015.
CARDINGTON – Northmor wrestling coach Scott Carr had a blast this weekend at the Division III sectional tournament at Cardington-Lincoln High School.
His Golden Knights had three weight-class champions and qualified nine grapplers to next weekend’s district tournament at Coshocton.
Northmor also won the team title with 235 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Hartley which posted 164 points.
“We don’t have the returning all-stars who are known statewide like we have in the past,” Carr said. “This is one of the best teams, from top to bottom, we’ve had at Northmor in a long time.
“I tell them to believe in themselves, and they keep showing up.”
The Northmor weight-division winners were Conan Becker (120 pounds), Jake Farley (138) and Kyle Johnson (182) while Aaron Kitts (113), Griffin Jenkins (126) and Sam Neer (145) fashioned second-place finishes.
The top four finishers in each weight class moved on to the district tourney.
Pleasant’s Ethan Ice was district champ at 126, as were North Union’s Corbin Bunsold at 170 and Brandon Cox at 285.
