Northville girls icers fall to 0-5


There’s no snow on the ground, but it’s been tough sledding so far for the Northville girls hockey team.

On Sunday, the Mustangs slipped to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the Michigan Metro Girls High School Hockey League with an 8-0 setback to Walled Lake at Livonia’s Edgar Arena.

Nika Orman had two goals and an assist for Walled Lake (3-3, 3-1), which scored six times in the opening period.

Three different Mustangs split time in goal including Anna Bartley, Madeline Chen and Nicole Valle.

Isabell Stricker (six saves) posted the shutout for the Wild.

G.P. SOUTH 8, NORTHVILLE 1: On Saturday, Carson Dennis notched a hat trick and Lauren Kramer added two goals to power host Grosse Pointe South (3-1, 2-1) to a Michigan Metro win over the Mustangs (0-4, 0-3) at the Grosse Pointe Community Rink.

Clare Ramsden tallied a second-period goal for Northville, which couldn’t overcome a 4-0 first-period deficit.

WALLED LAKE 7, NORTHVILE 0: On Dec. 9, Hannah Saieg tallied two goals and two assists for Wild (1-3, 1-1), which led 3-0 after one period and 6-0 after two against the Mustangs (0-3, 0-2) at Livonia’s Edgar Arena.

Alex Ragon and Nika Orman also added a pair of goals, while Becca Williams scored the other.

Walled Lake outshot Northville, 44-8, as Anna Bartley made 24 saves before being relieved by Nicole Valle, who stopped 13 shots.

Sheridan Clifford posted the shutout for Walled Lake.

LIGGETT 5, NORTHVILLE 0: Allison Stapleton notched two goals and one assist Dec. 7, leading host Grosse Pointe Woods University-Liggett (3-1, 3-0) to the Michigan Metro victory over the Mustangs (0-2, 0-1) at McCann Arena.

Haley Malewicz and Kate Zinn chipped in a goal and assist each, while Olivia Yates added the other goal for Liggett, which outshot Northville by an astounding 75-8.

Northville goalie Madeline Chen was heroic in defeat, stopping 67 Liggett shots before Nicole Valle came on late in the game.

Liggett goalie Olivia Portillo posted the shutout.
