Taylors-based Northwood Little League has reached the semifinals of the Little League Baseball Southeast Regional Tournament in Warner Robins, Georgia.
Northwood will play Keystone Little League out of Tampa, Florida, at 3 p.m. Tuesday in a game that will be televised by ESPN, with the winner advancing to Thursday’s championship game.
The winner of the Southeast Regional will move on to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. No team from South Carolina has reached the LLWS since 1950 when Clinton represented the state.
Northwood began play in the regional Friday by defeating Wilson City (N.C.) Little League 9-3. Alex Edmondson allowed two earned runs on two hits and struck out 13 over four innings and also had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for the winners.
Northwood scored seven runs in the sixth inning on a passed ball, a three-run homer by Edmondson, an RBI single by Braden Golinski, an RBI triple by Kip Johnson and an error.
On Saturday, Edmondson, Braden Buffington and Terrence Gist homered, and Northwood cruised to an 18-3, five-inning victory over South Nashville (Tenn.) Little League.
In the top of the first, singles by Gist and David Mershon helped Northwood take a 2-0 lead.
Northwood broke the game open with eight runs in the fourth, getting run-scoring singles by Buffington, Gist and Ryan Chapman, an RBI double by Johnson, a two-run double by Bradley Lewis and an RBI groundout by Golinski.
Edmondson reached base four times, scored three runs and knocked in a run.
Buffington picked up the win. He allowed one run and two hits over three innings, while striking out four and walking none.
Rounding out the Northwood roster are Gage Laymon, Ryan Soug, Pate Williams, Ben Tumblin, Brock Myers and David Clark.
The manager is Kevin Tumblin, and the coaches are Brad Johnson and Brian Williams.
