Parkway bowler Niki Edwards will be northwest Louisiana’s lone representative in the state bowling championships Friday in Lafayette.
Edwards qualified as an individual bowler with a 221 average in the two games after Parkway lost in the second round as a team in late March at the bi-regional event at Holiday Lanes.
The senior was also a starting guard on the Panthers basketball team that advanced to the Class 5A quarterfinals.
Byrd’s White sets school record
Byrd’s Morgan White set a school record with 38 points in this past week’s Gator Relays at Lee Hedges.
White won the 100-meter dash (11.70), the 200 (26.37) and the long jump (17-3.5) while placing second in the triple jump (34-1).
Captain Shreve swept the boys and girls titles handily.
Distance runners carried the Gator banner with Brandon Lewis-Graham sweeping the 800 (2:04.39), the 1600 (5:47.65) and the 3200 (10:20.85) while female counterpart Samantha Hilburn did the same in the 800 (2:35.62), the 1600 (5:47.65) and the 3200 (12:41.08).
North DeSoto’s Fran Wilson also won both hurdles events (15.80 in the 100 hurdles, and 51.52 in the 300 hurdles).
On the boys side, Huntingon’s Kavarea Applewhite took the 100 (10.80) and the 400 (50.67); North DeSoto’s Christian Boyd captured both hurdles medals (14.00 in the 110 hurdles, 39.12 in the 300 hurdles); and Northwood’s Kwaume McGee won the high jump (6-6) and long jump (22-2).
The next area track event is at North DeSoto on Friday.
Locals recruits stand out in recent camps
North Webster’s Devin White was rated the second-best prospect in a recent Nike The Opening event in Dallas based on an overall composite from drills like the 40-meter dash and shuttle.
Parkway cornerback C.J. Morgan placed in the top 30 of a field that included more than 300 participants. Others attending the event include Haughton’s Josh Lister, Calvary defensive back Rodarius Williams, Parkway quarterback Keondre Wudtee and Plain Dealing athlete Keldrick Carper.
Airline offenisve lineman Colton Prater and Evangel quarterback Connor Curry attended a similar The Opening event in New Orleans.
Two Logansport athletes were invited to a photo shoot initiated by national recruiting analyst Tom Lemmings. Lineman Langston Murray and athlete Braylen Wilson will make the trip to New Orleans.
