Thomas Pollard of Gilbert leads a pack of runners during the Iowa High School state cross country meet on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

The number of individual state cross country qualifiers will increase starting this fall.

Officials at the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Athletic Association, who run the coed meet, have agreed to expand the number of individual state qualifiers from 10 to 15 runners at each site.

The decision will allow athletes more individual opportunites to compete at the state meet.

The associations also established a rule that teams may not practice on state qualifying meet courses. The state has already had a non-practice rule for the state meet.
