Levonta Taylor, the Florida State commit who is among the top defensive back recruits in the nation, scored a pair of offensive touchdowns. Tyler DeSue and Kody Cunningham alternated at quarterback by series with Cunningham throwing two TD passes and DeSue tossing one.
There has been no drama on the field in terms of the results, but there has been some off the field, surrounding suspended coach Chris Scott. Scott was suspended for three games for recruiting violations. He was only allowed to be with the team for the first week of summer practice and assistant Chris Ramey has been serving as head coach.
Rumors have been swirling that the school board could dismiss Scott, although the board has given no public indication that the suspension could be extended or that Scott would not be back after the third game.
According to WAVY, messages on Twitter and Facebook have begun to pop up urging Scott’s supporters to attend the next Virginia Beach school board meeting.
A Twitter feed, JusticeForCoachScott, is urging supporters to be ready for the next meeting and also posted a photo of Scott and asked supporters to use that as their avatar.
On Facebook, a page entitled Support Ocean Lakes Coach Chris Scott has nearly 1,500 likes as of Thursday night. Messages on the page urge supporters to send emails or call Virginia Beach school board members.
Coach Chris Scott has been a constant in the Virginia Beach high school football community for many years. He has built a powerhouse program at Ocean Lakes High School, but what he has done for so many young men goes far beyond football. Coach Scott has saved the lives of players who would have otherwise continued down the dangerous paths they were on. He has taught them discipline, respect, motivation, and so much more. He has helped get over 50 players to Division 1 colleges and many others to Division 2 and 3 schools. He has made a substantial difference in the Virginia Beach community and this page has been created as a way for us to show our appreciation to him. No matter all the good he does, Coach Scott is constantly being criticized by people trying to bring him down and make light of the enormous impact he has on the lives of his players. Don’t let their negativity overshadow the incredible work he does! Let’s take a minute to prove to him that what he does for these young men is life changing. Whether you are a supporter of Ocean Lakes High School, or just a supporter of people who go above and beyond the call of duty to help others, please let your voice be heard. Tell Coach Scott how much he is appreciated! He could really use some kind words and support from the community he has worked so hard to help change for the better! #supportcoachscott
