If there is one universal cultural influence in the American teen experience, it might just be Chipotle.
The burrito, burrito-bowl and taco purveyor is everything teens think is hip: Customizable results, fast customer-focused service and a price point that puts it squarely below bona fide adult dining but above everyday fast food. In short, it’s just about perfect.
That’s precisely why it’s so hard to take Ohio State running back commit Todd Sibley at his word. Sibley, a rising junior at Akron’s Archbishop Hoban, took to Twitter to announce that he has never eaten Chipotle and never will.
Finally, a reasonable and responsible use of social media.
A couple immediate thoughts: 1) Is Sibley a jingoistic foodie? Why not at least try Chipotle? It’s not like it will bankrupt you, and 2) There are plenty of Chipotle locations in Akron and Northeast Ohio, so Sibley must be lying about his Chipotle restraint.
And if Sibley really is committed to avoiding Chipotle, at least some of his followers are willing to challenge him on the reason why.
So, is Sibley a liar, or just foolish? You decide.
