Here’s how the OHSAA state wrestling tournament is shaping up after two sessions.

Middletown senior Anthony Jagel is still in pursuit of a state title. Jagel has a semifinal match against Powell Olentangy Liberty’s Brakan Mead for a spot in the final.
In the 106 consolation bracket, Harrison sophomore Cory Baird eliminated Fairfield freshman Zach Shupp, 3-2, by way of a takedown in the closing seconds. Baird will wrestle tonight in the third consolation round against Hilliard Davidson’s Gio DiSabato.
The third round of the consolation bracket is the money round, a win there puts that wrestler on the podium, meaning he’ll finish in the top eight in the state in his weight class.
At 113 pounds, Mason senior Patrick Kearney is still alive in the third round of the consolation bracket. Kearney will face Clayton Northmont’s Chase Craft tonight.
Elder freshman 113-pound Austin Murphy was eliminated. Murphy won his first round match 7-5 before losing consecutive matches in the consolation bracket.
There’s a local matchup in the third consolation bracket at 120 pounds with Moeller senior Conner Ziegler and Mason sophomore Colin Schuster. Ziegler knocked out Glen Este’s Gage Branson in the second consolation round. Edgewood senior Jaren Rutherford was eliminated at 120.
At 126, all the locals have been eliminated from the tournament. They were Elder sophomore Jake Meridieth, Fairfield junior Austin Sper and Northwest junior Keyon Huntley.
The 132-pound bracket has seen the locals all eliminated as well. They were La Salle sophomore Corey Shie, Oak Hills junior Dylan Buis, Moeller freshman Jake Thompson and Princeton senior Anthony Alexander.
Moeller junior Jacoby Ward is still alive at 138 pounds with a third round consolation match later tonight against Copley’s Antwon Pugh. La Salle sophomore Eric Beck was eliminated at 138.
The 145-pound locals have exited the tournament in Elder sophomore Connor Craig and La Salle sophomore Andrew Sams.
The 152 bracket is also clear of any locals with exits from Mason’s Nick D’Agostino, Elder’s Ti’Ric Evans and Springboro’s Jakob Ottaway.
Moeller sophomore Brett Bryant has a semifinal match with Perrysburg’s Dan Waltermeyer at 160. Elder senior Andrew Taylor was eliminated.
Loveland junior Jordan Paul needs another win to find the podium. Paul won an 18-7 decision in the second consolation round setting up a match with Hilliard Bradley’s Keegan Driscoll. Springboro’s Chad Salzer and Mason’s Cameron Pitts were eliminated at 170.
At 182, Mason senior Jordan Collins is through to the semifinals with a match against Elyria’s Ben Darmstadt later tonight. Northwest senior Julian Daniels was eliminated in the second consolation round.
Sycamore junior Gary Traub lost his first match of the season but he’s still alive in the consolation bracket at 195. Traub eliminated Elder senior Gage Brock in the second consolation round with a pin at 4:26. Glen Este junior Nate Stone was also eliminated in the second round of the consolation bracket.
The 220-pound bracket brings the most local intrigue with St. Xavier senior Cole Jones still alive in one semifinal and Moeller junior Jack Meyer still alive in the other semifinal. Wins by both tonight would set up a Greater Catholic League South state final at 220. Mason senior Sheldon Sims is still alive in the consolation bracket as well; he’ll wrestle Xenia’s Cody Smith later tonight.
Springboro junior Jonathan Floyd has a semifinal match tonight against Lewis Center Olentangy’s Chris Crumb at 285. Moeller’s Joseph Hensley was eliminated at 285.
At 106, Western Brown freshman Brandon Lucas is in the semifinals later tonight against Toledo Central Catholic’s Josh Venia. Jake Gentry from Ross was eliminated in the consolation bracket.
Ross senior Aaron Cox will wrestle in the third round of the consolation bracket later tonight at 120. Cox knocked out Wilmington’s Tayler Steele in the second consolation round, 1-0 in overtime.
At 145, Western Brown junior Malachi Marlow was eliminated. Wilmington’s Allister Brausch was eliminated at 160 in the second round of the consolation bracket.
Norwood senior Nick Jackson is still alive at 195. He’ll face Tyler Rowland of Streetsboro in the third consolation round.
Batavia senior Darnay Foley was eliminated at 220 pounds. Foley won a match in the consolation bracket before being eliminated. Fenwick senior Ryan Fessler was eliminated at 285 pounds.
Middletown Madison junior Nick Svarda is in the semifinals at 195 where he’ll face Kyle Dieringer of Versailles.
Bethel-Tate senior Aric Peters is still alive in the consolation bracket at 120 pounds. Peters will face Swanton’s Chase Moore this evening. Deer Park senior Austin Siemon is also still wrestling in the consolation bracket. Siemon will meet Luke Sorboro of Rootstown at 160 pounds.
At 145, Purcell Marian’s Jake McCarthy was eliminated. Bethel-Tate’s Jeffrey Botts was eliminated at 182. Reading’s Austin King was eliminated at 220.
