OKEMOS – In what athletic director Ira Childress deems as a “historic and necessary” initiative, Okemos High School has announced its plans for the creation of the Athletic Hall of Fame this summer.
School officials involved with the project hope that it will connect both present and past athletes, while honoring “great teams and individuals” that have contributed to Okemos’ athletic success.
“We’re all standing on the shoulders of those who came before us,” said Childress in a press release. “Through the Hall of Fame, we want to recognize the great tradition of Okemos athletics and preserve the achievements of those who performed at the highest level.”
Okemos’ athletic department will have applications for nominees available on its website and in its office on May 4. All nominees received by June 8 will be considered for induction.
The Okemos Athletic Hall of Fame committee will announce the inaugural class later this summer, and the induction will take place on October 1 as part of the school’s homecoming week.
