Enka rising junior Katie Grace Olinger has committed to play college softball for North Carolina.

Olinger (14-0 with a save) earned All-Mountain Athletic Conference honors this past season after maintaining a 1.92 earned-run average with 88 strikeouts in 76.2 innings pitched for the NCHSAA 3-A champion Sugar Jets (28-0).

Olinger was the winning pitcher in Game 1 of the 3-A state championship last month in Greensboro – a 5-1 decision over Northern Guilford at UNC Greensboro.

She also batted .382 with eight RBIs, home run and a double.

Olinger is the fifth member of the reigning 3-A state champions to make a college choice. In that regard, she follows in the footsteps of graduated seniors Jasmine Palmer (Florida State) and Jordan Harris (Appalachian State) as well as rising senior Courtney Pearson (Queens) and rising sophomore Kloyee Anderson (Alabama).

Olinger plays travel ball for the Carolina Elite out of South Carolina.

Enka’s state championship season was its first in 19 years and the first for any Buncombe County NCHSAA softball program since 2000.
