Olympia (Orlando) improved to 12-0 to retain the top spot in the Super 25 baseball rankings. Titans pitcher Juan Hillman improved to 5-0 with a 2-0 defeat of Apopka.
There is a new No. 2 as San Clemente, Calif., won the National High School Invitational in Cary, N.C. The Tritons, who were No. 4, defeated No. 14 College Park (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) 8-3 in the NHSI championship as Chris Puckett and Connor Sealey each drove in two runs. Also in the tournament, San Clemente defeated then-No. 5 College Station, Texas, 5-3, and then-No. 24 Lambert (Suwanee, Ga.) 7-5. The Tritons’ only loss was to Mission Viejo, once they returned home from the NHSI.
The big gainers for the week were No. 6 Pleasant Grove (Utah) and St. Rita (Chicago). Logan Carlson has three shutout victories for Pleasant Grove (9-0), which had been No. 26. St. Rita’s Mustangs, who are 12-0, went from No. 27 to No. 7 and were led last week by senior infielder Tyler Halas, who went 10-for-14 with two doubles, two triples, nine runs and 12 RBI.
Besides Pleasant Grove and St. Rita, seven other teams crashed the Super 25: No. 17 McCracken County (Paducah, Ky.); No. 18 San Dimas, Calif.; No. 20 Liberty Christian Academy (Lynchburg, Va.); No. 22 Providence (Charlotte); No. 23 Mountain Brook, Ala.; No. 24 Staley, (Kansas City, Mo.); and No. 25 Onate (Las Cruces, N.M.).
