WHITE PLAINS — Ossining senior Jalay Knowles has been named a top-five finalist for the Miss New York Basketball award, the Basketball Coaches Association of New York announced Saturday.
Knowles (right), a 6-foot power forward, joins a list that includes Amanda Schiefen (Horseheads), McKenna Maycock (Randolph), Lauren “Boogie” Brozoski and McDonald’s All-American Lauren Fraser of South Shore. The Hartford commit will look to become the first Ossining player to win five gold balls in school history on Sunday, when the top-seeded Pride take on No. 3 Lourdes in the Class AA section final at 2 p.m.
Knowles is currently averaging 22.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, and has won more than 100 games during her tenure with the Pride. Knowles’ former teammate Saniya Chong won the award in 2013.
The winner will be announced during the NYSPHSAA championships weekend, which will run from Mar. 20-22 this year.
