ALBANY – The New Lexington wrestling team scored 244 1/2 points to win the Division II sectional title Saturday at Albany Alexander High School.
Sheridan came in second with 183 1/2 points at the 11-team meet.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to next week’s district meets.
The Panthers won three individuals crowns and advanced 13 of their 14 wrestlers. Andrew Spicer pinned Jackson’s Kyle Kirby at 120 pounds, Dimitri Williams earned a decision against Chillicothe’s Christian Collins at 160 and Tanner Walker won at 195 with a decision over Alex Bunnell of Vinton County.
T.J. Newsome (113), Austin Ratliff (132), Clayton Glick (145) and Luke Shively (220) were second; Landin Price (106), Corbin West (152) and Matt Adams (285) came in third; Austin Syfert (138), Sam Allen (170) and Dylan Wright (182) finished fourth; and Tyler Hicks (126) took fifth for New Lex.
The Generals won four titles and advanced nine grapplers. Nathaniel Kehn won by decision over Newsome at 113, Cayne Bennett pinned Ratliff at 132, Zach Carpenter pinned Glick at 145, and Evan Loughman earned a decision over Vincent Warren’s Brandon Pahl at heavyweight.
Noah Barnett (106) placed second; Austin Wolcott (138) and Trevin Gregg (220) were third; Lane Householder (120) and Jarrett Munyan (152) came in fourth; and Trenton Gregg (160) was fifth for the Generals.
Crooksville came in second with 157 1/2 points and won three individual titles in the Division III meet at Alexander.
Matt Kuhn won by decision against Westfall’s Dillon Plum at 106, Nate Bateson was first at 126, pinning Chase Thompson of Alexander, and Chaz Love took the 152 title with a pin of Anthony Koping from Nelsonville-York for the Ceramics.
Jeffery Patrick (170), Taylor Lyons (182) and Hunter Foster (195) finished second for Crooksville.
• In Division I action at Newark, Tri-Valley finished sixth (109 1/2) and Zanesville eighth (67 1/2).
Tri-Valley’s Kade Kowalski won the 145 title by decision over Olentangy Liberty’s Trey Grenier, and Winston Spiker defeated Zanesville’s Drew Hoskinson by decision in the heavyweight final
Riley James (132) placed second and Earl Schneider (120) fourth for the Scotties, while Leo Crosby (220) finished second and Olajuwon Pettiford (138) fourth for the Blue Devils.
• Morgan finished seventh (74 1/2), John Glenn eighth (64) and Maysville ninth (63.5) in the Division II sectional at Claymont.
Morgan’s John Haines won the 160 division with a decision over Minerva’s Dalton Hartshorn at 160, Rhys Ramirez (182) took second and Clay Foster (152) and Scott Harry (220) were fourth for the Raiders.
Maysville’s Andrew Presley (195) was second and Ruger Reeves (145) third, while John Glenn’s Jon Hinze took third (113) and Ben Van Wey fourth (132) to also advance.
• Philo was eighth (71) out of 10 teams in the Division II sectional at Buckeye Local, as Ty Robinson (195) was fourth to be the lone qualifier for the Electrics.
• West Muskingum came in 10th (77) in the Division III sectional at Barnesville. Corey Taylor won the 195 division with a pin of Caide Bunfill from Barnesville, while Quentin Bishop (106) came in second and Chris Knaup (120) and Jonathan Junk (138) were fourth to advance for the Tornadoes.
