To some, Clint Moses has become Madison-Ridgeland Academy’s secret weapon.
It showed on Friday night.
Behind Moses and Ben Milam, the Patriots ran past Parklane Academy, 60-41, in the semifinals of the MAIS Academy AAA, Division I tournament at Jackson Academy.
MRA (24-11), ranked No. 3 in Academy AAA, will face Jackson Academy tonight at 6:15 in the championship. JA beat the Patriots at the buzzer the last time the two teams met.
“Coach told us step it up once we started the second quarter, and we did,” Moses said. “I just started hitting shots and getting into a groove and just could not miss.”
Moses, who is receiving interest from Southern Miss and TCU in basketball, had a team-high 18 points, including a posterizing dunk in the third quarter.
“Clint played well the whole game, especially on the defensive end of the floor,” said MRA coach Richard Duease. “They (Parklane) played us in zone, and we kept it spread out and the middle was open. And we have guys that can drive to the basket and finish.”
Ben Milam added 14 points for MRA while teammate Devin Gilmore had 12 points.
“We came out slow, and once we started playing defense and forced turnovers, we took control of the game,” Milam said. “We know if we can come out and play like we did tonight especially the way we play defense we are hard to beat.”
Henry McDonald had a game-high 22 points to lead Parklane Academy. Quartez Brown added seven points for the Pioneers (18-10). Parklane will face Jackson Prep in the consolation game at 5 p.m. today.
“Give all the credit to MRA. They shot the ball very well tonight,” said Parklane coach Todd Foster. “MRA did good job of not allowing our main guys to score and let someone else make shots.”
