THE WINNER: Jake Brophy


School: Central Bucks East (Doylestown, Pa.)
Grade: Junior
Height: 5-foot-8
Weight: 140 pounds

Athletic achievement: He raced to the Class AAA individual state championship this past season with a course-record time of 15:24. Brophy also broke the tape at the Viking Invitational, the Central Bucks East Invitational, the District 1 championships and the Suburban One Continental Conference championships. He finished fifth at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional championships in 15:37.4 and placed 25th at the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships.

Academic excellence: Brophy has maintained a 4.14 GPA.

Exemplary character: A member of his school’s student council, he has volunteered locally on behalf of an animal shelter.


“Jake is a tremendous athlete, but also one of the most humble young men I’ve ever coached,” said Central Bucks East coach Sam Losorelli. “He never misses practice and is always willing to sacrifice his personal needs in an effort to help others.”

THE FUTURE: Brophy will be a senior this fall.
