PENTWATER, Mich. (WZZM) — Pentwater High School’s boys golf team is competing in the state regional finals this week, and their team features a few unlikely members. Three of the top five golfers are girls.
“I think it definitely pushes us to be better than what we thought we could be, playing with boys, because you have to keep up with them, said Taylor Wilkinson. “It definitely pushes us.”
“I thought it would be pretty weird at first, but I found it definitely to push me,” said Madi Wagner. “It’s fun and It’s just competition.”
“Personally, it’s not that bad,” said Linnea McDonough. “I can keep up with the guys pretty good. I can hit it pretty hard, but you forget how much of an advantage it is to play from the ladies’ — like during the summer, when you can go back to the normal box. But it’s been fun. It prepares you for a higher level of golf, too, so that’s cool.”
It’s the first year the boys team includes three girls.
