PHENOMenology: 11-year-old Ashlyn Watkins can't stop dunking

Ashlyn Watkins earned headlines across the internet recently — not least of all right here — for throwing down an in-game dunk. Now the fifth grader is making sure that everyone knows that first dunk on a nine-foot hoop was no fluke; there is plenty more to come.

In fact, in the most recent video footage of a Watkins game, the 5-foot-11 fifth grader dunked not once or twice but four times in the course of a single game for her South Carolina-based SC76ers squad.

Better yet: These slams came on baskets that quite clearly had backboards branded with “No Dunking”. Classic.

Watkins was the tallest person on the court, including her coach and the referees. And she’s not even in middle school yet! Should she continue growing and refining her mid-range game, which isn’t too shabby as it is.

Regardless of how she moves forward, it seems safe to say this isn’t the last we’ve heard of Watkins. Given her current rate of progress, she’ll put forward an entire game of nothing but dunks in the coming month alone.
