Patrick Mitchell caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Matt Beam in the second quarter for the visiting Pine Plains/Rhinebeck football team in a 62-8 loss to James I. O’Neill on Friday.
Beam completed a pass to Zach Matthews for the two-point conversion.
“We had some keys guys out, but every team deals with that,” Bombers coach Tom Povall said. “O’Neill came to play and they beat us. They run a no-huddle offense and we didn’t have much depth to substitute. It was the perfect storm. All we can do is come back on Monday, regroup and work on the next one.”
Mitchell ran for 72 yards and had six receptions for 73 yards for the Bombers (3-1). Beam threw for 86 yards and Tyler Tegtmeier threw for 22 yards in the second half.
“One positive is that we got our passing game going,” Povall said. “We didn’t run the ball that well or score much, but we did have over 100 yards passing for the first time in a long time.”
