North Rockland senior Olivia Burden has been “instrumental” in the Red Raiders’ season this year, according to coach Kevin Metcalf. The Red Raiders (16-3) extended their win streak to 12 games with their 68-44 win over White Plains in the Section 1 Class AA first round and successfully completed an undefeated season at home (10-0).
The fifth-seeded Red Raiders will take on No. 4 New Rochelle in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., a postseason rematch of last year’s first-round game, which the Huguenots won. North Rockland defeated New Rochelle its season-opener this year, 62-36.
The Journal News will select a player of the week each Sunday and post an article about the athlete and her accomplishments for the week. To nominate a player for the weekly accolade, please post in the comments section of the nightly recap post, email at email@example.com, or tweet me at @Zacchio_LoHud by the end of each Saturday so that I can analyze each case.
(Editor’s note: Since we are the number of teams still in contention are dwindling, next week will be the final week of regular POTW and rankings. I will do a rankings post at the end of Championship Week and then a final one when the season is completed – meaning, when the final team is eliminated.)
