It was another very difficult week to decide on our #lohudbaseball Player of the Week, but one player whose team desperately needed to snap a losing streak stood out above the rest.
Nyack left-hander and outfielder Daniel Marcillo led his team to one of the biggest upsets of the season thus far on Thursday, pitching six innings for the win and adding an RBI triple as the Indians upset third-ranked North Rockland at Provident Bank Park. That snapped a three-game skid for Nyack and sparked a strong weekend.
The Indians played a double-header on Saturday, beating Harrison with a 9-8 walk-off and then upending rival Pearl River, 9-2. Marcillo had three hits in each of those wins, finishing the week 7 for 10 with a double, a triple, a homer, two walks, three runs scored, four stolen bases, and most impressive of all, nine RBI. Not only Marcillo get the win on the mound in Nyack’s biggest victory of the season, but he also averaged three RBI per game this week. That’s certainly Player of the Week material.
Our honorable mentions this week include Iona Prep’s Chris Dutra, YMA’s Kennee Torres, Mamaroneck’s Kumar Nambiar, Ossining’s Keenan Grimley, Eastchester’s Greg Satriale, Sleepy Hollow’s Mike Fortugno, Briarcliff’s Mike King, Clarkstown North’s Steven Rosato, Ardsley’s Brendan McNerney, Fox Lane’s Andrew Workman and Carmel’s Sam Ferranto.
