Post-Crescent Media’s Ricardo Arguello goes one-on-one with Hilbert girls’ volleyball player April Gehl:
Q: Hilbert has been to the WIAA state volleyball tournament the past few seasons. What’s it going to take to get you ladies back there this season?
A: It’s going to take a lot of hard work. We only lost Erica (Gehl) from last year’s team, but positions have changed and we need to work on these changes. Communication and team chemistry will be key.
Q: You were able to play with your older sister, Erica, for a number of years on the volleyball and basketball teams. What was that experience like?
A: It was awesome. I’m very close to both of my sisters. Me and Erica had a special bond on the court and always knew what the other was thinking. When I was a freshman I got to play volleyball with both Katie and Erica and it was such a memorable year for all three of us.
Q: If you weren’t playing volleyball in the fall, would you be playing another sport?
A: Nope, the only other fall sport we offer is cross country and I am not interested in that at all.
Q: Congratulations! You just won an all-expenses-paid trip for four to anywhere in the world. Where are you going and who are you taking with you?
A: I would go to Bora Bora and I would bring my boyfriend, Connor, and my two older sisters!
Q: It’s favorites time! What’s your favorite movie?
A: “Mean Girls.”
Q: Favorite TV show?
A: “One Tree Hill.”
Q: Favorite store at Fox River Mall?
Q: Favorite aspect of Hilbert High School?
A: Friday night football games.
Q: Favorite celebrity dream date?
A: Zac Efron.
Q: Favorite area restaurant?
A: Olive Garden.
Q: Favorite musical artist?
A: One Direction.
Q: Favorite place to vacation?
Q: Favorite childhood toy?
Q: Here’s a scenario: You just secured the genie of the lamp. You get three wishes. What would those three wishes be?
A: Be rich, have a nice car and live in a mansion.
Q: What’s the next step for you? Are you planning on being involved in athletics at the next level?
A: I want to stay close to home, so I am planning on going to St. Norbert or Stevens Point. And I would love to play at the next level.
