Plymouth sectional produces state qualifiers


Several area swim teams raced in Plymouth at a WIAA sectional meet, sending a number of swimmers on to state.

Winners in each event at the four Division 2 sectional meets around the state automatically advance, and the next 12 fastest times qualify for state.

In the 200 medley relay, Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran team of Kara Friske, Brooke Casper, Jenna Silvestri and and Emma Herold finished in second place (1:52.33), barely behind Grafton’s team.

Silvestri also advanced in the 200 individual medley by winning her sectional (20:09.43) and advanced in the 100 breaststroke with a second place finish (1:06.86) at the sectional meet and the fourth-fastest time in Division 2.

Herold finished in second place in the 50 yard freestyle (24.53) and easily qualified for state. Her teammate, Kelli Hoekstra, also qualified for state in the event, finishing fourth in her sectional (24.83). Lauren Boos from Kiel/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah finished in sixth place at the sectional (25.20) and still advanced.

Herold and Hoekstra each qualified in the 100 freestyle, finishing second (52.79) and third (53.95) respectively in their sectional.

Friske qualified again in the 100 butterfly, finishing third at the sectional meet (1:02.46) and landing among the top 16 state-wide to advance. She will also advance in the 100 backstroke after finishing third (1:02.32) at the sectional meet.

In the 200 yard freestyle, Plymouth’s Anna Theisen earned a second place finish in her sectional and her time of 2:00.91 landed her in the top 16 to advance.

Theisen also qualified in the 500 freestyle, finishing in third place (5:23.43) at the sectional meet.

Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran’s 200 freestyle relay team of Silvestri, Ashley Dedering, Brooke Casper and Hoekstra finished in second place (1:42.98) at the sectional meet and will advance to state after finshing with one of the 16 fastest times state-wide.

Hoekstra, Dedering, Friske and Herold finished in second place (3:40.07) at the sectional meet in the 400 freestyle relay and had a time well within the top 16 and will advance.

Division 1

Nicolet Sectional: Sheboygan North finished ninth and Sheboygan South was 12th at the sectional meet, however, both squads turned in some strong finishes.

Both teams will have to wait until the full Division State Meet fields are released to determine if they had any state qualifiers after neither team posted any sectional winners.

The top area finisher was Sheboygan North’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Lauren Hayon, Ella Revelis, Erin Fehrman and Ashlyn Prisinger, which finished third, while the Golden Raiders took fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a quartet of Hayon, Fehrman, Prisinger and Abby Veeser.

Fehrman was the top individual finisher for Sheboygan North, placing seventh in the 100-yard backstroke.

Lilian Stenz turned in the top finish for Sheboygan South with a ninth place in the 100-yard breaststroke.
