Polk County softball coach Jeff Wilson has stepped down after 19 seasons and 353 career wins.
Wilson’s final season with the Wolverines was one of their best. The team went 21-4 en route to the Western Highlands Conference championship. Polk County reached the third round of the NCHSAA 2-A playoffs.
Wilson also resigned his duties as the Wolverines athletic director at the conclusion of the school year – a position that has since been filled by Brandon Schweitzer – but had originally hoped to stay on as softball coach.
Polk County should be a formidable team once again in 2016. The team returns five All-WHC players, including rising junior Ashley Scruggs, who was the WHC Pitcher of the Year this spring.
