Power and Class Rankings for 4/14

Here are the my first power rankings since my pre-season top 10. A couple of changes have already occurred in the opening weeks, so let’s get to it.

Top 10 Power Ranking

1.) Suffern — The Mounties suffered could-have-gone-either way consecutive losses to top programs Milton (Ga.) and Radnor (Pa.) to open the season, but have comfortable wins over Baldwinsville and White Plains.

2.) Yorktown — The Huskers look fired-up after last year’s heartbreaking sectional final loss. They dispatched Somers by a 13-3 score today and defeated Long Island’s Ward Melville on Saturday to keep a perfect record.

3.) Somers — The defending Class B champs were perfect until today’s loss to Yorktown. Still, there is still a lot of talent on this team, led by Nicole DeMase and the Rosenzweig sisters.

4.) John Jay — Amanda Flayhan is scoring as well as ever for the Indians, who tied Lakeland/Panas on Friday. Safe to say, the top end of Class B is loaded.

5.) North Rockland — The likes of Kaitlyn Gutenberger, Aleya Corretjer and Lizzie Fox have all picked up the scoring slack after graduating last year’s top offensive player in Kaitlyn Rau.

6.) Lakeland/Panas — The Rebels’ two losses came to Yorktown and Somers. Katie Bradbury stood out in the team’s tie with John Jay on Friday.

7.) Rye — After tying Pearl River last week, the Garnets have won four straight, including one over Mamaroneck

8.) Mamaroneck — New head coach Rocky Lividini has Mamaroneck off to an excellent start, including an impressive 9-8 win over White Plains yesterday.

9.) White Plains — The Tigers had tough one-goal losses to North Rockland and Mamaroneck after starting the season 2-0.

10.) Rye Country Day — Hackley has been dominant for the past couple of years, but the Wildcats have now beaten them twice in a row, dating back to last season. Rye Country Day has also handled it’s other opponents well, as they sport a 5-0 record.

Class A Rankings

1.) Suffern

2.) North Rockland

3.) Lakeland/Panas

4.) Mamaroneck

5.) White Plains

Probably the biggest surprise here is Mamaroneck’s rise in the rankings thanks to a strong start. White Plains could easily climb back up the rankings if they can get over those tough losses, so keep an eye on them. Right now, Suffern is ahead of everyone else, and the next tier would include North Rockland and Lakeland/Panas. Mahopac is right on the cusp of this ranking.

Class B Rankings

1.) Yorktown

2.) Somers

3.) John Jay

4.) Rye

5.) Horace Greeley

Yorktown now looks like the team to beat in Class B after a convincing win over Somers, but sectionals are still a long way away. Safe to say that the top 3 here is loaded, while Rye is very good as well. The last spot is pretty wide open, as I could see the likes of Ossining, Eastchester and Fox Lane all playing into it if they go on a winning streak.

Class C Rankings

1.) Bronxville

2.) Pearl River

3.) Hen Hud

4.) Briarcliff

5.) North Salem

Bronxville has solidified itself as the clear-cut top team here. Pearl River has played very well and did tie with Rye earlier in the season, but they just recently tied with Albertus Magnus. The other three teams have also gotten off to good starts as well.

1.) Rye Country Day

2.) Hackley

3.) Holy Child

4.) Harvey

5.) Kennedy

Aside from Rye Country Day overtaking Hackley (by a hair), not too much to say here. Holy Child has gotten off to a strong start.
