Trinity Christian players celebrate their Class 3A state title.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The weather is warming up and spring is in bloom which means high school spring football is right around the corner. With team’s officially being allowed to practice come the beginning of May, programs have begun to schedule their annual spring games. Here is a list of some intriguing games that have been scheduled so far.

Nease at Atlantic Coast – Wednesday, May 20

This will be the first time we get to see Atlantic Coast in action under the leadership of new head coach Matt Elliott. Former coach Kevin Sullivan decided to step down as the Sting Rays’ head coach in January after five seasons with the program that he literally built from the ground up.

Bishop Kenny at St. Augustine – Wednesday, May 20

Bishop Kenny will be looking to retool its offense after losing players like offensive tackle Tyler Jordan who committed to the University of Florida, and wide receiver/defensive back Charles Wade, who committed to Wake Forest. Wade was arguably the best play maker on the First Coast in 2014 so this game might give us our first look at who head coach Mark Thorson will look for to step up in 2015.

First Coast Jamboree: Ed White, Trinity Christian at First Coast – Thursday, May 21

This jamboree features the only area state champion from 2014, Trinity Christian. Always loaded with talent, the Conquerors will be replacing a plethora of athletes who are now on their way to Division I programs, including offensive lineman, Kendrick Norton (Florida) and linebacker Jeffery Holland (Auburn). The same can be said for Ed White and First Coast. The Commanders are looking to replace a pair of standout running backs in Taylor Thomas (Oregon State) and Javarius Davis (Auburn). As for First Coast, head coach Marty Lee might have the most talent to replace. Look no further then Florida’s 2014 Mr. Football, quarterback De’Andre Johnson, who just wrapped up spring practice at Florida State University. May 21 will be a nice look at these teams’ new crop of standouts.

Oakleaf at Baker County – Friday, May 22

Baker County will be adjusting to life after Cece Jefferson. Jefferson was one of the most sought after defensive ends in the country this past recruiting season. He eventually committed to Florida. Oakleaf was one of the best stories to come out of the First Coast during the 2014 season. The Knights are coming off the best season in program history, in which they saw an undefeated regular season and a playoff run all the way to Class 7A regional finals. There’s no reason to think Oakleaf will take a step back either. Returning linebacker Shaq Quarterman is sure to make the Knights’ defense one of the top in the area.

Duval Charter at Columbia – Saturday, May 23

Whoever Duval Charter’s head coach will be, (if they have one by this time) he will be brand new to the job. The Panthers are back on the hunt for a head coach after former Jaguars quarterback Quinn Gray spent exactly 19 days on the job before calling it quits. May 23 will be the first time for both the fans and the new man in charge to get a look at the 2015 roster in game action. The Panthers are coming off the best season in program history with an 8-2 record and trip to the regional semifinals.
