Anja’s week

St. Mary’s Springs’ up-and-coming sophomore won three of the four events she competed in at last Tuesday’s six-team home invite, earning first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (17.33 seconds), 300-meter hurdles (51.30) and high jump (4-feet, 10-inches). She also added a second-place finish in the triple jump for good measure.

All-time team sports achievement

Advancing to the WIAA state tournament in basketball this year.

All-time individual achievement

Scoring 20 points against Howards Grove in D4 sectional semifinals in March.

No. 1 athletic goal

Play basketball, and possibly run track in college.

Coach Shane Smith’s thoughts

“She’s strong and powerful. She’s a beast. She’s a great addition to the team. It takes some of the pressure off our other athletes to do four events. We can limit her a little bit and limit others and still do really good as a team. She’s a great addition.”

Anja’s thoughts

“I guess I’m better at my jumping events, but I’m also pretty good at sprinting. I’m supposedly a good hurdler.”
