PARMA – In their third meeting of the season, the Battle Creek Central wrestling team finally got past Harper Creek in a Division 2 district on Thursday.
But after extending their season at least one match, the Bearcats were eliminated from the MHSAA Team State Tournament with a 43-30 loss to host Parma Western in the district final.
“It was nice to beat (Harper Creek coach Dave) Studer. He’s a legend and anytime I beat him is an honor,” said BCC head coach Louis Politte. “The kids wrestled well, a lot of them peaking at the right time. Came up a little short against Parma Western.”
BCC ends its season 8-14 overall. Posting multiple victories for the Bearcats on the day were Francisco Lemus (103 pounds), Antonio Postell (125 pounds), Kenny Grayer (152/160 pounds), Jacob Taylor (171 pounds) and Adis Garza (189).
The MHSAA Individual State Tournament begins with district rounds on Saturday across the state.
“Hoping guys are ready for individuals and we had guys bumping up today for the team,” Politte said. “So they’ll cut weight and be ready to go Saturday.”
Division 1 at Holt (Wed.): Lakeview defeated Jackson in the semifinals by a score of 43-24 before losing in the championship match to host Holt by a score of 34-25. No other information was made available from the district.
