French Camp’s Luke McKnight carries the ball upfield ahead of Lumberton’s defense during Friday night’s game held in Hattiesburg.

Daylon Burks scored four rushing touchdowns to lead Lumberton to a 28-13 victory over French Camp in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs Friday at Lumberton.

The Panthers advance to face Nanih Waiya next week on the road.

In addition to Burks scoring all of Lumberton’s touchdowns, the senior also hauled in an interception. Isaiah Roberts also had an interception for the Panthers.

“Our offensive line, our fullback (Drik Coleman) and our entire defense played great,” first-year Lumberton coach Zach Jones said. “(Coleman) did an excellent job blocking tonight and our defense was lights out.”

Lumberton improves to 7-5.

West Marion 36, Raleigh 30

Senior quarterback Josh Miller continued his standout senior season Friday, throwing two touchdowns and running for two more in West Marion’s 36-30 win over Raleigh Friday in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A South State playoffs.

The Trojans improve to 12-1 this season.

Raleigh took an 8-0 lead early on a Chris Moncrief 6-yard run and subsequent 2-point conversion. But Miller and West Marion answered quickly, as he threw a pair of first-quarter touchdown passes – both to Adrian Miller – to give the visitors a 14-8 lead after one quarter.

Raleigh got a pair of rushing scores from Same Edwards in the second quarter, but Miller’s 4-yard run and successful 2-point conversion attempt knotted the game at 22-22 at halftime.

Miller added a 9-yard scoring run in the third quarter and Caleb Batie’s 30-yard touchdown dash in the fourth sealed the deal for West Marion.
