HOMER — Homer finished second overall in its own tournament, falling to Pittsford, 20-25, 25-20, 8-15, in the championship match.
The Trojans won all of their pool play matches, then went on to beat Reading (25-10, 25-9), and Madison (18-25, 25-13, 16-14) in bracket play on their way to the finals.
For Homer, Courtney Willson was selected to the All-Tournament team after recording 37 kills, 17 digs, and six blocks. Also for the Trojans, Jill Sitekiewicz had 24 kills and seven blocks, and Tyme Warner had 23 kills and seven blocks.
HANOVER-HORTON INVITE: Battle Creek Central lost all of its pool play games, falling to Adrian, Addison and Jackson Northwest. The Bearcats were led statistically by Eirion Traylor with 18 assists and six digs, Jamesha Smith with 10 kills and three blocks, Logann Jackson with six kills and nine digs, Mya Trevino with five kills and three blocks, and Jamilah Wade with 13 digs.
COLDWATER INVITE: Athens went 0-3 for the day, losing to Galesburg-Augusta and Coldwater in pool play and then falling to Coldwater again in the first round of bracket play, 26-28, 19-25. The Indians’ stat leaders were Josie Lamson with 39 assists, 15 digs, and five aces; Tayler Eutsey with 20 kills and 26 digs; Rachel Nobach with 18 kills and 39 digs; and Aubrey Cole with 38 digs.
COLDWATER 2, MATTAWAN 2: The No. 11 ranked Cardinals played the No. 2 ranked Wildcats to a 2-2 tie on Saturday. For Coldwater (14-3-2), Mana Admed scored a goal in the first half on an assist from Wageeh Saeed, and then early in the second half, Fadel Said scored an unassisted goal. In goal for the Cardinals, Balal Nasser made eight saves.
Girls’ Cross Country
PORTAGE INVITE: St. Philip placed fourth out of 18 teams in the Division 4 race. Leading the Fighting Tigers were Ava Strenge (1st, 18:02), Riley Rutherford (8th, 19:15), Madi Elliott (10th, 19:26), Meagan Casterline (43rd, 21:30), Helen Berner (81st, 24:10).
In Division 1, Lakeview placed 19th as a team, paced by Maggie Farrell (19:15), Payton Stine (20:17), Maggie Wood (20:32), Logann Haluszka (20:44), and Megan Riegle (20:56).
HUDSON INVITE: Quincy was second overall in the Division 3 race and was paced by Gabby Porter (4th, 20:20), Meri Michael (13th, 21:30), Katie Spalding (14th, 21:56), Madde Horn (21st, 22:47), and Nickole Loomis (37th, 23:32). Athens placed seventh in the race, led by Corra Hamilton (8th, 20:54), Samantha Hardin (18th, 22:11), Jenny Smittendorf (51st, 25:09), Lexie Crabill (25:15), and Skylar Golyar (55th, 25:53).
Boys’ Cross Country
PORTAGE INVITE: St. Philip placed 17th out of 21 teams in Division 4. The Fighting Tigers were led by Jack Greenman (31st, 17:25), Kenny Wojcik (52nd, 17:57), Noah Barry (101st, 19:39), Jack Wojcik (137th, 22:38), Jon Perry (142nd, 23:38).
In Division 1, Lakeview was 35th, led by Joe Glubke (16:55), Nate Wiley (17:50), Scott Bridges (17:57), Sage Castleberry (18:01), and Keegan Aimesbury (18:14).
HUDSON INVITE: Athens was seventh as a team, led by Casey Hardin (34th, 19:03), Austin Fuller (36th, 19:17), Bradley Brandvold (38th, 19:21), Damon Knowles (56th, 20:06), and Mason Mears (57th, 20:32). Quincy was ninth as a team with 208 points. The Orioles’ top runners were Nathan Nohr (9th, 17:36), Ethan Nottingham (38th, 18:49), Brandon Gary (43rd, 19:00), Bryce Bassage (67th, 19:53), and Brock Martin (84th, 21:07).
