City rivals met on the volleyball court at Lakeview on Wednesday, with the host Spartans earning a three-set victory over Battle Creek Central in a Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference East Division opener.
The Spartans won by scores of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-12 to improve to 15-10-2 on the season.
“A good team effort tonight,” said Lakeview coach Heather Sawyer. “BCC played well in game two and did a great job taking us out of our system… We have been working on discipline within our system and have made some gains… I’m excited to see how good we can get.”
Lakeview was led by Rose Tecumseh with 12 kills, four aces and five digs. Emily Eldridge and Reagan Smith had six kills apiece; Emma Morey had 25 assists, five digs and three aces; Kayla Callaway had six digs and Aiden Baum had three aces.
HARPER CREEK 3, LUMEN CHRISTI 0: The Class B ninth-ranked Beavers won by scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-23. Leading Harper Creek (27-3-1) were Charley Andrews with 21 kills and eight digs; Jess Cadena had 14 kills and 10 digs; Kim Kusler had eight kills and 11 digs; and Katie Wade had six aces, 41 assists and seven digs.
MARSHALL 3, (AT) PARMA WESTERN 0: The Class B honorable mention Redhawks won by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-16. Leading Marshall (16-7-2, 2-0 Interstate Eight) were Kaylie Bates with nine kills, 25 assists, three aces and five digs; Audrey Myers had 10 digs; Chloe Webber had four blocks and Jessica Vorst had four kills.
MATTAWAN 3, (AT) GULL LAKE 0: The Blue Devils fell by scores of 10-25, 22-25 and 13-25. Leading Gull Lake (16-12) were Jenna Burkhardt with 10 kills and three blocks; Kenzie Corstange had five kills; Lauren Esman had three aces and Taylor Ferguson had 18 digs.
(AT) BRONSON 3, MENDON 0: The Class C top-ranked Vikings earned a big sweep over Class D fifth-ranked Mendon by scores of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-17. Bronson (23-5-2, 3-0 B-C-S) were led by Jill Pyles with seven kills, six aces and eight digs; Alexa Ratkowski had 30 assists and five digs; Allison Sikorski had 12 digs; Kiana Mayer had seven kills; Kirin Cekander had 10 digs and eight kills; Kera Lasky had 12 digs and Payton Robinson had seven digs.
UNION CITY 3, (AT) ATHENS 2 (TUE.): The visiting Chargers won by scores of 25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 20-25 and 15-10. Leading Union City (11-8-2, 1-1 Big Eight) were Haley McIntosh with 11 kills and 11 digs; Haley Harty eight digs and six kills; Rachel Wing had seven kills and five digs; Cassie Thorpe had 10 assists and seven digs; Carley Robinson had nine assists and Emma Hoppe had 13 digs. Athens was led by Aubrey Cole with 31 digs; Lexi Goss with six kills and five blocks; Rachel Nobach with 10 kills and 19 digs; Josie Lamson with 24 assists and 15 digs; Tayler Eutsey with 16 digs and six kills; and Aubrey Brunner with six kills.
QUINCY 3, JONESVILLE 1 (TUE.): The Orioles won by scores of 18-25, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-17. Leading Quincy (12-4-1) were Hannah Economou with 13 kills and three aces; Mackenzie Mooe had 13 kills and 10 digs; Riley Rackocy had 10 kills and Cailyn Cook had 13 digs.

Leading Delton Kellogg (12-14-3, 4-0 SWAC) were Morgan Champion with 22 kills and six digs; Jerilyn Sinclair with seven digs; Lillian Howard with nine kills and six blocks; Bailee Tigchelaar with 25 digs and three aces; Hannah Walker with 15 assists; Sarah Bassett with seven digs and Sam Mohn with 22 assists, 10 digs and five kills.
HILLSDALE ACADEMY 4, TEKONSHA 0 (TUE.): The Indians fell by scores of 7-25, 15-25, 16-25 and 10-25. Leading Tekonsha (5-11-1) were Alexis Newbold with eight assists, four kills and 18 digs; Maria Barron had four assists, three kills and 17 digs; and Olivia Barron had nine digs and three kills.
MARSHALL 1, LUMEN CHRISTI 0*: Due to a lack of players, Jackson Lumen Christi has forfeited its scheduled game against Marshall on Thursday. The Redhawks improve to 8-2-4 overall and 3-0-1 in the Interstate Eight Conference.
(AT) MARSHALL 4, PENNFIELD 0 (TUE.): Alex Kraushaar scored a pair of goals to lead Marshall to the Interstate Eight Conference victory. Also for the Redhawks, Andrew Shippell and Cody Quick had a goal and an assist apiece; Cody Clapper had two assists and Dustin Lutz had an assist. In goal, Kurt Kraushaar picked up the shutout, his ninth of the season.
INTERSTATE 8 JAMBOREE: Parma Western won the seven-team event at Cascades Golf Course with a score of 195. Harper Creek placed fifth with 215, followed by Coldwater in sixth with 217 and Marshall in seventh with 230.
The Beavers’ scorers were Macy Hancock (52), Sydney Leatherman (53), Jaqueline Greene (54) and Baylee Wilkins (56).
The Cardinals were led by Madison Donbrock (49), Haley Linton (53), Claire Sheppard (56) and Jayla Goodwin (59).
Marshall’s top golfers were Kirsten Miller (49), Loren Bates (58), Jill Konkle (61) and Natalie Newman (73).
SMAC EAST JAMBOREE NO. 4: Gull Lake won the event, with Lakeview placing second with a 199. Leading the Spartans were Haley Lesiow (48), Samantha Grise and Maddie Yorke (49) and McKenna Evans (53).
