Marshall won their fifth straight soccer game Wednesday night, defeating Pennfield 2-1 in overtime.

With the victory, the Redhawks improve to 6-2-2 overall this season, 3-0 in Interstate-Eight action.

Marshall’s first goal of the game was scored by Shannon Hicks on a direct free kick. Later, in the first overtime period, Carlee Long found the back of the net on an assist from Cara Gallahugh for the game-winner.


Harper Creek 0, (at) Charlotte 0: The match remained scoreless after double overtime, resulting in a tie. Kelly Klutts made 10 saves in goal for the Beavers (4-4-2, 1-1-1 I-8), making it her sixth shutout of the season.

(At) Parma Western 1, Coldwater 0: After a scoreless first half, Parma Western scored the lone goal five minutes into the second half. For Coldwater (4-4-2, 0-3 I-8), Shelby Bowers had six saves in goal.

Quincy 3, (at) Hanover-Horton 2: The Orioles (4-4-1, 3-2 ISL) scored the first three goals of the game. Scoring the first goal was Cailyn Hines on a pass from Liz Counterman. Hines then returned the favor, assisting on the second goal as Counterman found the back of the net. The third goal was scored by Haley Bean on an assist from Gaby Masson. Goalkeeper Haley Askew made fives saves in the net for Quincy.

(At) Delton-Kellogg 8, Maple Valley 0: For the Panthers (5-3-2, 1-2 KVA), Autumn Russell, Lilly Howard, Bailee Tigchelaar, and Mikayla Du Shane each had one goal. Riley Smith and Morgan Champion scored two goals apiece for Delton-Kellogg. Assisting on goals were Smith, Howard, Tigchelaar, Russell and Amrie Blomeyer, while Makenna Grizzle got the shutout in goal. For Maple Valley, goalkeeper Elysia Piedrola had 15 saves.

Lakewood 4, Olivet 3 OT (Wed.): Olivet held a 3-1 lead at halftime, but lost in overtime. Scoring for the Eagles were Kylie Falk, Loren Westlake, and Ashley Harmison. Westlake also had an assist, and Megan Ormsbee had seven saves in goal.

(At) Delton Kellogg 2, Bangor 1 (Wed.): Riley Smith netted a pair of goals in the win for DeltonKellogg, with an assist apiece from Kristen Mohn and Amrie Blomeyer. In goal for the Panthers (4-3-2, 1-2 KVA), Hannah Butchbaker made 10 saves.


Portage Central 7, Lakeview 2: Skyler Nichols and Hunter Bost had two hits each for Lakeview (14-2, 6-0 SMAC East). Also for the Spartans, Nate Jones had a single and two RBIs.

Parchment 1-0, (at) Coldwater 0-1: In Game 1, Jordan Butler went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Cardinals (13-5). In Game 2, Brandon Lewis threw a no-hitter in the victory for Coldwater.

(At) Homer 9, North Adams-Jerome 0: Freshman Seth Spence got the win on the mound for Homer (16-6, 4-2 Big Eight), four innings and gave up one hit and struck out eight batters. Jordan Willson also pitched three innings, allowing no hits and struck out four. Preston Sherman had two hits with a single, a double, and three RBIs. Nate Sitkiewicz added two singles and an RBI, and Brock Ridgeway had a single and two RBIs.

(At) Marshall 9-9, Bronson 3-2: Toeing the rubber in Game 1 for Marshall was Mason Griffith, who pitched five inning and allowed just two earned runs. At the plate, Drew Devine and Alex Walton each had two hits for the Redhawks. For the Vikings (6-10, 2-2 BCS East) in the first game, Noah Roberts was 3-for-3 with a double. In the nightcap for Marshall, Logan Austin for the win, throwing four innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs. Austin helped himself with two hits and an RBI. Offensively, Walton was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Andrew Shippell and Scott Reagle each knocked in a pair of runs. In Game 2 for Bronson, Thadd Herman had two hits.

Bronson 7-5, White Pigeon 1-0 (Tue.): Daniel McMichael picked up the Game 1 win for Bronson, allowing one run with 14 strikeouts over six innings. At the plate for the Vikings, Tyler Roussey doubled with an RBI while Thadd Herman had a hit and two RBIs. In Game 2 for Bronson, Coty Bennett got the win on the hill with seven strikeouts while allowing just two hits over six innings. Offensively, Philip Mandoka tripled. For the Redhawks (3-17), MacKenzie Benham had two hits in the doubleheader.


Benton Harbor 24-18, (at) B.C. Central 11-6: At the plate for the Bearcats, Jasmine Warren had two hits and scored two runs in the doubleheader.

Bronson 14-14, (at) Marshall 1-0: Adyson Lasky got the win in the circle for the Vikings (13-5, 4-0 BCS) in Game 1 through seven innings of work. At the plate for Bronson, Kelsey Robinson, Kiana Mayer and Skyler Sobeski had two hits each, while Allie Sikorski was 3-for-5 with a single, a double, a home run, and four RBIs. In Game 2, Sikorski had another homer along with a triple, a single, and a stolen base. Kinslea Blouin also had three hits, including two triples, and Hannah Hoover was 3-for-3.


Gull Lake Tom Collins Invitational: Lakeview took first place at Bedford Valley golf course with a team score of 313. Leading the Spartans were Andrew Walker (72), Matt Alderink (75), James Staab (80), A.J. Moore (86). Coldwater took fourth in the event, led by Cam Ruge (78), Nathan Waterbury (84), Nolan Duda (86), Stephan Boston (88), and Keagan Dwyer (91).

Thornapple-Kellogg 182, (at) Delton-Kellogg 186: Leading the Panthers at Yankee Springs golf course were Dreke Lutterbeck (39), Kevin Beaudry (46), Logan Lumbert (49), and Turner McCowan (52).

GLAC Jamboree: Host Maple Valley won the tournament with a team score of 160, as Ryan Mudge, Hunter Hilton, Rage Shelton, and Jordan Denton each shot a 40. Olivet took fourth with a score of 193, led by Jake Andrews (44) and Daniel Higgins (45).
